Increase your Laptop Battery life…
Lot of times we don’t really provide the care & maintenance our Laptop needs & as a result we bring it’s life down considerably. One of the key contributors of these problems is the damage to it’s batteries which can be easily prevented by little care & pre-cautions. In this blog, I will share some of the tips & tricks to maximize your laptop’s battery life.
All Laptop batteries have an internal microprocessor that provides an estimate of the amount of energy in the battery as it charges and discharges. One of the key contributors to the battery problems is our tendency to always keep the laptop on external power due to which battery internal calibration gets disturbed overtime. Short discharges with subsequent recharges do not provide the periodic calibration needed to synchronize the fuel gauge with the battery’s state-of-charge. A deliberate full discharge and recharge every 30 charges corrects this problem & helps to recalibrated to keep the onscreen battery time and percent display accurate.
To re-calibrate Laptop battery, we must fully charge, fully discharge, and then fully recharge the battery pack.
Charge Fully —–> Discharge Fully ——> Charge Fully
1) Charge Fully – Connect the Laptop to external A/C power with the battery inserted. Let it charge completely till the Battery Indicator shows 100% Charged. (Click on the Battery Icon at the right hand corner – See image below)

2) Discharge Fully -Once the battery is full charged begin discharging the battery by removing the A/C Power supply & letting the laptop to run only on batteries. Now, there are few things which you need to keep in mind as the current power option settings may either put computer on the sleep/hibernate mode (depending on the settings). To do that, Goto Contol Panel -> Power Options –> Change Plan for the Selected Plan –> Advanced Options. Set the valuue for Sleep -> Hibernate After (On Battery) –> Never
The above step is to ensure that laptop doesn’t gets into Sleep or Hibernate Mode while running on the battery. Now, run the notebook on battery power until the battery pack is fully discharged.
3) Recharge the Battery -Connect the notebook to external power and keep the notebook connected until the battery pack is fully recharged.
Another point to note is that Batteries may get damaged if stored for prolonged periods with a closed circuit. If the battery will not be used for a month or longer, it is recommended that it be removed from the device when 60% –80% charged and stored in a cool, dry and clean place. Use battery once amonth to ensure good storage status.
